Individual house in Fraternity community

As extension to an existing house, this house was planned using the techniques of a traditional Tamil house. The layout shows the arrangement of rooms around a courtyard or the Muttaram which is open to sky and is an excellent technique to increase natural air convection.

A tiled roof serves as overhang all around the house, protecting and shading the walls from the harsh tropical sun.

Supported by carved granite pillars all around, the house, both in its planning and its appearance, stands testimony to a well-functioning Tamil house.
